The Don Harrington Discovery Center immerses you in science the moment you leave the parking lot. Stop at the Helium Monument and see if you can tell the time using the monument’s shadow. Don’t forget, this clock doesn’t adjust for Daylight Savings Time and pays no attention to “mean” time. Inside the entry you will see several beautiful and thought-provoking exhibits even before you get to the admissions counter. Our admissions staff is eager to help you and your students move quicky to your programs.
The Center offers many unique, high-quality programs that will challenge your students and make learning fun. Our school programs are aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and apply to the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).
The museum is a private, not-for-profit organization that makes science exciting, relevant and interesting to all types of learners by providing interactive exhibits and programs that actively engage children, adolescents and their families. It fosters inquiring minds and nurtures the individual genius that is within each of us.

The 45-minute classes are dynamic and encourage students to learn through discovery and emphasize inquiry. Each class is grade-appropriate and meets state education standards. The classes can be used to cover a particular subject or as an enrichment of the material already taught in the classroom. The labs allow the learning to become an extension of your classroom. We are eager to help you take the learning back home. Maximum class size is 30 students.
The Don Harrington Discovery Center is to proud provide a world-class digital planetarium. Inside the Space Theater, students can travel through the universe and through time with presentations that reveal the inner workings of astronomy. The Space Theater can take groups of 90 from the surface of Mars to the edge of a black hole and back to Earth all within 45 minutes. Try that in your average spaceship! Space Theater Shows & Times
We encourage you and your students to explore, create, play, tinker, solve, read and discover with all of the exhibits. You can learn about the weather, force and motion, structures, optical illusions, fish, coral, and reptiles. DHDC Science Guides are always available to help you and your students to go deeper in their exhibit investigations.
